The Hindu Saint Thirugnanasambandar has, apparently, mentioned this temple in his songs, which go back to early 7th century! You'll actually have to set foot into the precincts of the Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple, Meenakshi Temple for short, to fully appreciate the efforts of the ancients in the construction and preservation of the structure. It’s what some would call poetry in stone.
